OQBA - About Us...

Tournament Rules & Info

All our tournaments use the following rules and handicaps, regardless of circuit (Amateur or Open) :

  • 9-ball
  • Double elimination through the final
  • Soft break prohibited — 3 balls must pass the side pockets or be pocketed
  • 9 on the break does not count
  • Call on the 9 required
  • ALL ball fouls
  • Handicaps

Entry fees vary by rank. Everyone pays a “once per season” fee of $15.00, and a “per tournament” fee of $20.00. Handicaps also vary by rank, and everyone plays their handicap on both the A-side and B-side :

🧾 Fees breakdown

Season fee

The $15.00 season fee is payable once per OQBA season at your first tournament of the season and covers various league services.

Tournament fee

The $20.00 tournament fee is payable at each event. It powers OQBA by helping us run the season and is split into 3 parts :

  • $5.00 #1 — INJECTED DIRECTLY INTO THE FINALS!
  • $5.00 #1 — purchase of the various trophies and prizes given and awarded at each tournament during the season;
  • $5.00 #2 — goes to the director(s) for the often 20 + hours of work required to run each 2-day tournament, as well as prep before and after the event;
  • $5.00 #3 — funds the league “Operations & Evergreen” account to pay for various needs over the year  :
    • Operating supplies (pens, pencils, envelopes, highlighters, ink, paper, etc.)
    • OQBA website and social media fees
    • Software licenses (Office, Photoshop, etc.)
    • Monthly fees (YouTube Premium, XSplit, etc.)
    • Equipment purchases/replacements (cameras, computers, cabling, etc.)

This self-funding mechanism should keep OQBA going for years to come…

Season Standings

The OQBA Season Standings are based on the points you earn at each tournament you play, as well as the number of events you play during the season.

🏆 Top 3 Recognition!

At the end of each season, the top 3 in the standings of each circuit are recognized for their performance with a trophy, a ring, or a commemorative plaque.

💰 1st place gets a boost!

Additionally, if you finish first in the season, you’ll get your distinction, AND, your entry fee to the Season Finals paid in full — our way of honoring your exceptional season.

If a tie in points occurs, standing is determined by the number of tournaments played: the player with fewer tournaments played and the same number of season points wins.
